Things To Do

In Jeffreys Bay, the average visitor is overwhelmed with the range of activities available, both in J.Bay itself, as well as the surrounding areas - both in and out of high season.

Due to J.Bay's unique positioning right on the border of both the Sunshine Coast, as well as the Garden Route, we're able to offer you a variety of thrills, spills and adventures - all within a maximum of one and a half hours drive!

Surfing

Jeffreys Bay is by definition, South Africa's surf capital, and thanks to our unique weather, we can literally boast awesome waves all-year-round! From the obvious - being the home of the annual ASP Billabong Pro Series venue, to Holllywood gracing our shores in search of the 'perfect wave' while filming the iconic surf movie, Endless Summer, J.Bay always lives up to it's promise of awesome surfing!

For the beginners, there's Kitchen Windows, Dolphin Beach, as well as Main Beach. With waves on average being between 2 - 4 foot high, it's the perfect spot to start practising on our well-known right-hand breaks... and even when the waves are practically non-existent, it's just the most amazing feeling just chilling on your board waiting for the next set of waves to hopefully come your way.

For the more adventurous, there's Boneyards, Magnatubes and Point Beach - each with their own distinctive and individual quirks... and for the more experienced surfer there's Supertubes - our most famous break! Unless you're really sure of yourself our there in the water, these waves are the one's  to set yourself as goals some time in the future... after you've had some more practice! In the meantime though, there's no need to stay away from Supertubes... it's the most fantastic spot to just chill and watch other surfers rip their stuff, and come July (the middle of winter on our side of the world), it's the most radical place to pick up tips and inspiration while watching world class Pro surfers doing what they do best during the Billabong Pro!!!

If you've never tried to surf before - this is absolutely the one place in the world you have to take your first surf lesson! Whether you manage to stand during your first lesson, or not... you'll be hooked forever after!

Horseriding

Experience guided tours with the team from Pappiesfontein twice daily along the 13km circular route. Their trail takes about 2 hours to complete, leading through beautiful fynbos coastal vegetation, towards the Gamtoos River with breathtaking views from the dunes and finally returning along a 6km stretch of deserted beach. Here, on this isolated beach, riders can canter their mounts in the shallow or have an exhilarating gallop on the sand.

The trail provides magnificent views of the area and affords ample opportunity to spot a variety of bird species, tortoises, bushbuck, plant and marine life. Imagine whale watching from horseback!

The guides escort every group and assist riders in selecting horses just right for their respective capabilities. This outride is ideal for intermediate and advanced riders, though in quiet times, they also accommodate beginners. Experienced riders can choose not to go with a guide and have the freedom to explore the valley at their own pace.

Shopping

Jeffreys Bay has become the mecca of surf gear shoppers worldwide! Besides retail stores literally competing with each other from a few metres away, J.Bay proudly boasts being a 'Factory Shop' haven of note! From Billabong, to Quicksilver, to Element, to Bam, to Roxy, to Country Feeling, to Ripcurl, to Lizzard, to Oakley, to Colibri, to Country Khaya, to Jeep... our world is your shopping oyster!

The usual, average shopping day here is splashed with 'discounts' from all sides - but watch the local press for details of when some of these shops have their 'Big Clearances'... and walk out the shops laden with huge bags and sometimes having saved up to 50% of the retail selling price!

Wildlife

Considering J.Bay's unique location in the heart of the Eastern Cape - wildlife viewing is an absolute must!!! With so many options to choose from - whether you're interested in a day trip, or would like to spend a few nights at some of the most authentic game parks... you'll be absolutely amazed by the vast variety of animals you'll see!  Including the Big 5.

So whether you want to see elephants, lions (even white ones!!!), rhinos, giraffes, zebras, springbok, kudu, a variety of birds, gemsbok, warthogs, meerkats, ostriches, wildebeest, leopards, cheetahs, tigers, crocodiles, monkeys, or tortoises... we'll whisk you off to either Addo Elephant Park, Seaview Lions, Lombardini Game Farm, African Dawn Animal Sanctuary, Daniel Cheetah Breeding Farm,  or Schotia Game Reserve (just to name a few options!)... where you'll be spoiled for choice in viewing some of the most unique and amazing animals in the world... all within (approximately) a 90 minute drive!!!

Sandboarding, Kitesurfing & Windsurfing

Hurtling down magnificent sparkling sand dunes reminiscent of Lawrence of Arabia scenery... rising high, up, above and over the waves with your kite above you and your board attached to your feet... ripping along the waves at incredibly speeds... besides surfing, we could keep you busy the entire duration of your visit with us!

With lessons in each of these sports inclusive of all gear - it's as easy as just giving us a call and asking us to make the arrangements for you... and just rocking up there. Time for you to become 'at one' with the elements!!!

Township Tours

There are 2 townships in Jeffreys Bay, Tokyo Sexwale and Ocean View - both of them considerably smaller than the average township in our major cities. Although lacking in size in comparison, neither lack in diversity or culture, and spending an afternoon in the company of one of our tour guides, gives you an insight into the lives of the people that live there.

The Township Tours (which are mainly on foot) are generally unplanned, and while your tour guide will give you general information on the history of these townships, as well as point out specific places and areas, the majority of the tour is based on a spontaneous result pertaining to the people you meet and spend time with during your tour - the group determining where they'd like to spend more time at.

So take time out with a local youngster to play soccer on one of the open fields... chill out in one of the local shebeens drinking beer straight out of the bottle or from a metal mug... or simply accept an invitation to visit and chat to one of the local ladies who will most likely want to sing for you, or introduce you to every single one of her neighbours... whatever you decide to do - just take some time out to experience life in a completely different way.

Tours are usually approximately 2 - 3 hours long, but based on the nature of the tours, they can sometimes take a bit longer.

Adrenalin Junkies Unite!

From jumping off the Bloukrans Bridge (the official highest bridge jump in the world at 216m!!!), to sky-diving, to canopy ziplining, to abseiling, to paintball... you're bound to find an adrenalin pumping past-time here!

So what are you waiting for?!?!

Arrange for someone to water your plants, pick up the mail and feed your pets... and jump onto the first mode of transport you can arrange! Whether it has wheels, or wings, or rails... just get here...and live the learning experience of a lifetime!!!!
